Lateral Connection Seals

Many lateral pipes today have reached their life expectancy and are either failing and/or contributing large amounts of infiltration and/or inflow (I/I) to the main sewer pipeline. Installing lateral connection seals together with the CIPP main lining broadens your options affordably.

What is Lateral Connection Seals?

Lateral connection seals are the point at which the sewer line coming out from homes and businesses connects to the city’s main sewer line. There are trenchless lining technologies that can be installed from the mainline. This eliminates excavation and often will combine a seal for the lateral’s connection to the mainline. Typically, lateral lining with and without the lateral seal combines the use of a resin-impregnated tube installed by either water or air pressure. It is then cured inside the host pipe by heat (water or steam), ambient temperature or UV light.

When and Why It’s Used

Lateral pipes often present many challenges when lining or sealing. The reason why is that they have multiple bends, diameter changes, offset joints, cracks, deposits and roots. The lateral pipe connection to the sewer main also can have problems due to leaks, cracks, and poor alignment. Typically this is created by improper connection procedures. Trenchless rehabilitation can address these challenges while minimizing the impact to property owners and sewer providers. Insta-Pipe uses a unique UV-cured CIPP technology to cure a glass reinforced seal, structurally bonding the mainline CIPP to the lateral CIPP for a complete solution capable of preventing root-intrusion and infiltration while extending the life of the connection.

Benefits of Lateral Connection Seals
