Lateral Launch Services in the Pacific Northwest

Insta-Pipe - Lateral Launch

In the decades since video pipe inspection services were first invented, there have been a number of advances in the technology. Old-school pushcam inspections are still used, and still certainly have their place. However, they haven’t been the only kind of camera used for quite a while. Other camera techniques are necessary for different kinds of pipe, especially if you need to take a look at branch lines. Insta-Pipe provides comprehensive lateral launch inspection services across the Pacific Northwest. If you need to have a branch line thoroughly inspected, contact us to schedule an appointment with one of our expert technicians.

How Lateral Launch Inspections Work

The first lateral launch robot was invented in the early 90’s, and in the past 20 years the system’s popularity has only grown. Lateral launching systems are camera robots that are capable of launching a secondary camera down branch lines. The main vehicle travels down the mainline until it reaches a branch line, at which point the front of the system will pivot. Once the secondary unit is aligned properly, it can continue down the lateral pipe to continue the inspection. Once the inspection is completed, the lateral camera is simply retracted back into the main vehicle and the entire unit is pulled back out.

The Advantages of Lateral Launch

Pushcam inspections are great if you just need to inspect the mainline, but that’s not the only pipe in the system. In order for a complete pipe inspection, you’re going to need to have a way to inspect the branch lines, as well. Pushcams are incapable of completing this kind of inspection, because they have no way to pivot to continue down the other line. That’s why lateral launch robots are so important. They allow the operator to make sure that all pipes and the mainline are in good condition.

Even if you don’t need to have any branch lines inspected, the lateral launch vehicle still works just as well for inspecting the mainline. It simply won’t launch the secondary camera during the inspection. Lateral launch vehicles are ideal for all kinds of inspection needs and pipe configurations, which is why we offer them.

Let Us Handle Your Inspection Needs

When you schedule inspection services for your pipes, you want to make sure that they are as thorough as possible. Chances are, you don’t have someone by to check your pipes every few months (it’s really not necessary, anyway). If a major issue in one of the lateral lines is missed, though, that means that it may not be caught before it can do some serious damage. So, make sure that your entire pipe system is verified to be in good shape every appointment.

Hire a contractor who has the tools to make that happen. Insta-Pipe provides comprehensive inspection services throughout the Pacific Northwest. Contact us today to schedule an appointment with one of our technicians. We’ll make sure that you get all the information you need about the state of your pipes, so that you can make an informed decision about next steps.
