CIPP Pipe Lining Process: Cured-IN-Place- Pipe Lining

Cured-In-Place-Pipe lining; CIPP has been in use in the United States for the last 35 years. Cured in Place Pipe Lining is an approved and chosen method to rehabilitating cracked, broken and failed sanitary sewer pipes. CIPP Lining is less expensive and more efficient than traditional replacement methods. The Cured in place lining process can be used to rehabilitate virtually any type of pipe including; Clay, Cast Iron, Orangeburg, PVC, ABS, HDPE, Concrete Pipe, etc.

Cured in Place Pipe Lining System - Installation Process

  • The damaged pipe is cleaned and inspected.
  • A measurement is then taken so the cured in place pipe liner material can be cut to length.
  • The 100% epoxy resin is then mixed and poured into the liner material impregnating it.
  • The cured in place pipe liner is then loaded into the launching unit.
  • Then the cured in place pipe liner is inserted into the pipe through an inversion process that utilizes air pressure.
  • This literally turns the cured in place pipe liner material inside out which allows the resin to bond with the host pipe.
  • The resin cures within 3 hours.
  • The pipe is put back into service for up to 50 years.
Cured in place pipe liner Step 4The material is measured and cut onsite.
Cured in place pipe liner Step 3The formulated resin is measured and mixed.
Cured in place pipe liner Step 2The resin is poured into the liner evenly.
Cured in place pipe liner Step 1The liner is loaded into the inverter.

Once the new pipe liner installation is complete, it is simply connected to the existing system. This code-approved and tested pipe is a completely root-proof, leak-proof, chemical and acid resistant pipe, with a minimum life span of 50 years!

CIPP InnerSeal System - Installation Process

What is the CIPP InnerSeal System?

Cured in place pipe liner 0A pre-manufactured, needle punched felt liner material made to match the geometry of the service connection is impregnated with a two-part 100% solids epoxy resin. The InnerSeal cured in place pipe liner material is then positioned inside the carrier train exposing the InnerSeal connection brim.

Cured in place pipe liner 1A winch pulls the train through the mainline to the service connection to be repaired. An articulating robot precisely aligns the main bladder opening so that it is directly facing the service connection.

Cured in place pipe liner 2Air pressure pushes the InnerSeal into the service connection. The InnerSeal Cured in place pipe liner is inverted from the mainline into the service connection. The specially formulated resin is allowed to cure without adding heat.

Cured in place pipe liner 3The inversion bladder is deflated and the positioning tool removed from the main line. Repair of the defective connection is complete. The process results in a watertight service connection seal and a structurally sound, solid connection with a minimum life expectancy of 50 years.

The strength, life expectancy, chemical resistance and non-disruptive installation characteristics of CIPP have revolutionized the pipe rehabilitation industry. After 25 years in the market, it remains the preferred method for trenchless repair of municipal sanitary and storm sewer lines as well as industrial sewer and product lines.

Sectional Point Repair - CIPP Installation Process

What is CIPP Sectional Point Repair?

2The CIPP sectional point repairs are manufactured and delivered in a complete kit form. Each kit is sized to suit the diameter, length, and external loads of the pipe to be repaired. This process involves attaching the sectional point repair to a specialized bladder, then positioning the bladder over the damaged area inside the host pipe.

The bladder is then inflated and held in place until the thermo-setting resin is cured. Access points are required through upstream and downstream manholes. Prior to installation of the sectional point repair, the host pipe is cleaned and free of any foreign objects. This will allow adhesion to the host pipe material with the sectional point repair system.

CIPP Step 2Applying Epoxy to Saturate Material
CIPP Step 3Saturate Material for Inner Tube
CIPP Step 4Installing Sectional Point Repair

CIPP Sectional Point Repair

The Perma-Liner CIPP Sectional Repairs can be installed in pipe diameters from 6 inches (152.4 mm) to 54 inches (1371.6 mm) diameter and lengths from 2 feet (0.6096m) up to 30 feet (9.1440m) in length. If a sectional point repair is positioned over a lateral junction, the junction can be re-opened with a specialized robotic cutter after the pipe is lined.

The Point Repair forms a structural, permanent waterproof repair which seals all types of pipe against infiltration and exfiltration. The finished repair is stronger than the original pipe. This repair has a superior bond to the existing pipe equally in wet or dry conditions and because the resin is 100% solids, there is no shrinkage and therefore no annular space between the pipe and repair that could cause leakage. The repair system can be used equally well in warm or cold climates.

Perma-Patch System - Installation Process

What is the Perma-Patch System?

Perma-Patch™ is designed for 4” and 6” diameter pipelines with cracks, holes, and separation in joints. The repair is inserted into the damaged pipe using an inflatable bladder and push cable. The Perma-Patch™ is centered over the damaged pipe section and pressed tight against the host pipe area, creating a structural new pipe. No excavation is required!

  • With a small diameter camera inspection system, locate the damaged area
  • Impregnate the fiberglass mat with the 100% solids epoxy resin
  • Wrap the impregnated fiberglass mat around the inflatable bladder
  • Secure the fiberglass mat to the inflatable bladder
  • Push the bladder into the pipeline through an open clean-out
  • Inflate the bladder and while it cures for 3 hours
  • Pull out the bladder and insert camera for final inspection
